This past Saturday evening, the Starry Night Studio & Gallery Tour was held in Orillia, Ontario, about 30 minutes from where I live. A friend and I hit the road to take it all in and meet up with some friends.
Streets Alive Productions, which does great things for the arts community in its area, organized the art festival with their capable group of volunteers.
Vendors and artisans lined streets blocked off from traffic, and various shops opened their doors for tours of local artists' works. My eyeballs felt like they might explode with the beauty of it all. We have so many talented folks in our midst. I imagined what it would feel like to have my own work displayed at such an event one day. It's a goal for this coming year, so I better get painting.
Streets Alive Productions also organizes artists each year to paint large themed works that are installed along the main street from June through October. This year's theme was pollinator plants, and I volunteered to join the party this time. Each artist was given a large flower cut-out and was tasked with painting each with different local pollinators.
Naturally, we had to visit my cup plant flower and take a selfie.
We capped off the evening with a pint on an outdoor patio. The night was warm, with lightning flashing in the distance. The rain that threatened the event had ended just after the start time and held off for the remainder of the evening.
Good friends, stunning art, decent weather, and a nightcap make for a memorable summer evening.
Creatively yours,
Sandy Bishop
